Extremadura

Currently in the Extremadura region of the Via de la Plata.  It's very hot and dry.  The stages are virtually all desert in between stops.  Here are some photos.

Back in the Blogosphere

After about a month of hiatus, I am back to blog more.

A lot has happened since I finished the Camino de Santiago - French route. Since leaving Santiago de Compostela, I have spent 1 week in Portugal (on pilgrimage to Fatima), 2 weeks in New York (for some personal matters), a day in Milan, a few days in Gibraltar.  Today, I find myself on the Camino de Santiago once again as part of the last leg of my pilgrimage to Madrid for World Youth Day.  This time however, I am doing the Via de la Plata or the Silver route which starts in the city of Sevilla.

I am currently on day 5 of the Via de la Plata and so far, it has been a different experience from the Camino Frances (French route), which I did earlier this summer.  The difference is that I am alone this time, the weather is hotter and dryer since it's July and the Silver route is in the warmest regions of Spain.  Also, the Via de la Plata is not as popular as the Camino Frances.  I have met only 6 pilgrims in total on this Camino.  Needless to say, this Camino has been very quiet.  Therefore, if you're looking for "solitude in the desert", you will like this Camino.

Yet another one of the majestic cathedrals in Spain.  This one in Sevilla.

My first day on the Via de la Plata.

My first time to see a field of sunflowers.  Breath-taking.

I was busy looking at a huge herd of goats on my left when I stumbled into this mama goat give birth to a baby one on my right hand side!

It's hot hot hot on the Via de la Plata, much hotter and dryer than the Camino Frances.

One of the only 6 fellow pilgrims on the Via de la Plata.

St. Bartholomew Church, the parish at El Real de la Jara, which is the last stop in the region of Andalucia.

View of El Real de la Jara from an old castle, which was built to protect Spain from the attacking muslims and from the Portuguese at 2 different occasions in Spanish history.
